There are just enough similarities between one of the main musical motifs in the "Avatar" soundtrack and one from "Titanic," that in listening to the Avatar CD I keep expecting it to veer off into Titanic-land. This was not nearly as noticible with the visual distractions of the film, but it gets a little annoying without them. James Horner, I am disappointed by this. I mean, I know there are things you like to work into all your soundtracks - there were certain rhythms and chord progressions that I could identify in "Star Trek II: the Wrath of Khan," "The Rocketeer," "Willow" - and yes, one or two of those carried all the way through to "Titanic." Those were mostly minor things, though, that happened once or twice in each respective album. To do it with a major recurring theme...? Meh.

Also, I am amused that the same composer wrote the original scores for "Star Trek XI" and "Up." :)

Have been amazingly non-productive lately. I'm starting to wonder if seasonal affective disorder could be part of the problem, and whether it'd be worth investing in a full-spectrum light. I mean, it'd probably be nice to have one of those for craft work down the line anyway, right?

Oh, and this isn't really music-related but might amuse [livejournal.com profile] velithya or [personal profile] kijikun... last time I hit Target, they had the season 1 DVD box set for Supernatural on big-time sale, so guess who'll probably be addicted in short order... ^^;;
Tidus - resting

So yeah, put together the end of moving everything I own, a busy patch at work, moving in a new housemate, and still attempting to do NaNoWriMo, and I don't get a whole hell of a lot else done. Like blog posts. Or laundry. (Note to self: do some tonight!)

Adopt one today! ...I do still collect little virtual dragons, though (and pardon for making you look at this one - I try not to do this often ^^;; ).

Anyway, housemate and her cat are moved in; her feline is a tall, rangy 13-year-old black male. He would really really like to be friends with LadyFuzz, but she is having none of it and hisses violently at him every time he chirrups and makes a friendly approach. *sigh* She's a harsh mistress, she is.

The NaNo story will not get anywhere near 50K by next Monday, as I stalled on writing for an entire week at the start of the month while working on other stuff. I am still plugging away at it, though, and should be able to at least get it to the halfway point.

I should be a little more coherent - and present - after this weekend.

Okay, I haven't posted here in far too long because I was caught up in house- and craft-related stuff.

Before I LJ-cut this: the home inspection went well. I got approved for the mortgage. I close on the house next Tuesday, which explains some of the frantic activity. )

There will be house pictures once all the papers are signed and it's really, truly mine. (Well, the bank's - but you get the idea!)

So much to do, so little brainpower...

We had a [personal profile] kaitou over the holiday weekend, which included a lot of quiet knitting, a trip to a local yarn shop (daaaaaangerous place, that!), local fireworks and a tasty brunch, all in excellent company. ♥

In less happy / Technology Hates Me news, I had to ask for an extension on my Big Bang art assignment, because my desktop PC (the one with Photoshop installed) lost its power supply fan. I'll be trying to replace the power supply tonight - wish me luck! (...I'll need it.)

I have plans to meet [personal profile] orenda next week for a wild, adrenaline-crazed roller coaster binge at Cedar Point - dependent on weather, of course. Keeping fingers and toes crossed for no (or minimal) rain on the chosen day!

The local SF convention is in 2 1/2 weeks, which means I need to nail my songs & lines for the play and make sure I have my costume stuff & wig lined up. Will probably not have anything for the Art Show, at this rate.

And of course, threaded through all of this is the house-hunting... and quite probably getting another buyer's agent, at this rate, because good ol' Marv seems to be blowing me off. (Guess I'm not a big $$ enough customer for him to bother with? In which case he can kiss my lily-white tuckus while I give somebody else the commission.)

After July, hopefully things will get a little more sane again. Well, aside from (hopefully) moving, and all that entails. ^^;;;;

Gah, so much I need to get done today & tonight. Half of it I had planned to do last night; then I found out we had a [expletive deleted] play rehearsal last night, not the usual schedule.

As a reminder:
Call bank re: mortgage pre-approval (left voice mail)
Laundry
Office Depot, pick up replacement for borked USB drive
Dr. N
Grocery Store (check coupons)
• Start clearing computer desk
• Scan/photograph and list more items for the sale post

Oh yeah, and getting to bed before midnight tonight? HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

I still need to figure out if the jaw pain is an incipient root canal, or just me clenching my teeth. It didn't hurt when I woke up this morning, and I have caught myself clamping the jaw pretty tightly - but I don't think that's enough evidence to call it one way or the other. *sigh*

So - that's the cat and the teeth putting in their bid to keep me from saving up more money. The only thing left to make it a trifecta is an unexpected car repair. *pats little 'mobile* "...you hear me, baby? Hold together."
